Hello, and welcome to my blog! I’m Stacy Bettencourt, founder of Bookkeeping by Bettencourt, where I help business owners find clarity, balance, and confidence in their finances. I’m thrilled to introduce myself and share the unique journey that brought me to where I am today.
My Early Start in Accounting
My journey with numbers began when I enrolled in an Accounting program a couple years after high school. I was captivated by the precision and problem-solving that bookkeeping required. Unfortunately, life had other plans, and I had to leave the program a few classes shy of earning my degree due to a move.
At the time, I thought my path might change entirely, but those early experiences stayed with me, shaping how I viewed the importance of financial harmony and organization.
A Detour Into Writing and Technology
After leaving my initial accounting program, I pursued my passion for writing, literature, and the English language, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Maine and later a Master of Arts in Professional Writing. These degrees strengthened my communication skills, which have become a cornerstone of my approach to bookkeeping. I firmly believe that financial data should tell a clear story, one that empowers business owners to make informed decisions.
Later, I spent a year in a Post-Baccalaureate in Computer Information Systems program, gaining the technical skills necessary to thrive in today’s digital-first environment. I also spent a year in a Graphic Design program, which sharpened my eye for detail and aesthetics—both essential for presenting financial data in ways that are both functional and visually intuitive.
Coming Full Circle
Despite these varied educational pursuits, I never lost my love for numbers. A few years ago, I decided it was time to return to my roots. I enrolled in an Associate of Science in Accounting program at a different college, where I am now halfway through completing my degree. Additionally, I’m actively working toward my QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor Certification to provide my clients with the most up-to-date bookkeeping expertise.
20+ Years of Real-World Experience
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide variety of clients, from freelancers and sole proprietors to mid-sized businesses, non-profits, and for-profits. Each client brings a unique story, and I’m proud to offer tailored solutions that meet their specific needs.

Outside of the Numbers: Life in Maine
While bookkeeping is my professional passion, there’s much more to who I am. I live in the beautiful state of Maine, and though I spent a period of my life in California, I know I’ll never want to live without the stunning combination of ocean, lake, and forest all within a few miles of my home. The natural beauty of Maine inspires me daily, both in my work and in my personal life.
When I’m not crunching numbers, you’ll often find me expressing my creativity as an artist. I’ve been a significant influencer in the quilling community, sharing my love for intricate paper art. Photography is another passion of mine—I specialize in dog portraiture and macro photography, finding joy in capturing the smallest details and the unique personality of each subject.
At home, I share my life with my wonderful husband, Dan, and my dog, Tyson, who holds a special place in my heart. Tyson is not just my pet; he’s my constant companion and an endless source of love and inspiration.
